Dev-Team – the group behind PwnageTool iOS jailbreaking software demoed today a beta implementing the latest security exploit called SHAtter. You might remember that a while ago we announced a brand new exploit developed by pod2g. Well, Dev-Team today’s demo is based on it and the security exploit it might be harder to close by Apple this time.
The SHAtter exploit implemented in the current PwnageTool beta “convinced” the iPod touch 4G to restore to a custom firmware (IPSW) instead of the official one and has all the goods (Cydia, root shell) included.
By Dev-Team own admission, PwnageTool is overkill to be used just for jailbreaking purposes since faster tools are being developed. Currently it is used for iPhone 4 owners that want to update their firmware while keeping the baseband and ultrasn0w carrier unlock. That being said, we would be delighted to put our hands on it since the redsn0w installation kit for Windows is still not available.
Check after the break for the video demoing the last exploit in action.
