This morning when I started my computer, I noticed a new update to the iTunes. I said OK, and I went ahead with the update, since Apple releases iTunes updates regularly. After the update, I noticed that a new iPhone driver was also installed in Windows, which was rather unusual, and reserved for iOS updates. Well, that was exactly what happened, iTunes notified me that a new software update is available for my iPhone (4.0). I still have iPhone 3G (not 3GS) so multitasking doesn’t apply to my model, but it is due for renewal this month so I’ll get the new iPhone 4 anyway. Among the most notable features of the new OS version, you can find the following:
- Multi-tasking (sort of, but will work well in most of the cases). I “freed” my iPhone a long time ago because I couldn’t stand the inability of listening NPR while surfing or reading news. Hopefully, embedding multitasking into the official OS will help save the battery life
- Bluetooth keyboard support – defeats the purpose of not having to carry a net-book, but a useful addition nonetheless.
- Folders - available for more than 2 years on jail-broken units, it finally finds its way into the official OS. A good addition since iPhone tends to have separate applications for every simple task imaginable.
- more than 1500 API changes/additions available to the developers
It is important to notice that jail-breaking methods for the new iPhone are already available, so you don’t risk anything by upgrading to the new version.
