For the last Christmas, I decided to get a cheap and easy to use digital camera for my 6 years old son so he won’t take mine anymore. The requirements were: price under $100, easy to use, rechargeable battery (I hate wasting money on batteries) and as small as possible.
I started to read reviews and compare cameras, and after a while I decided to buy Casio Exilim EZ-Z33 model from Amazon.
Main Features Of Casio EXILIM EX-Z33:
- 10.1 megapixel resolution and 3X optical zoom lens, max resolution 3648 x 2736

- Face Detection function automatically detects people’s faces aimed to deliver optimal result
- Records wide-screen movies at 16:9 aspect ratios with a press of the dedicated Movie button 848 x 480 (30 fps), 640 x 480 (30 fps), 320 x 240 (30 fps)
- Included computer software allows users to upload the movies to YouTube
- Easy Mode helps new comers become an expert with common settings
- Compatible with commercially available SD /SDHC card type Eye-Fi wireless LAN cards

- Dimensions: 3.7” (W) x 2.2”; (H) x .7” (D) ; Weight: approx. 3.6 oz
- Self timer 2 or 10 sec, Triple
Battery life:
I was able to take about 200 pictures in one charge with its included LiIon battery (3.7V 710mAh) and to record about one and a half hours of video. Not too bad, but I would recommend purchasing an additional battery for your trips, especially because, in my experience kids tend to take pictures all over the place, as if the storage and battery are infinite.
Pros:
- very small, fit easily even into a child’s hand
- reasonably good 10MB pictures
- can also take pictures in WIDE mode (16:9 to view on your TV)
- very easy to use, point and click with dedicated buttons for taking pictures, viewing pictures and video mode
- several available colors for every taste (silver, black, blue, light pink, vibrant pink)
- face detection
- YouTube mode wide-screen video, looks reasonable on my 60″ plasma TV.
- Included internal storage 16.9MB, you can take several pictures even if you don’t have a SD card.
- Can add date/time on the picture if needed.
Cons:
- slow auto-focus
- so-so pictures indoor and low light conditions
Conclusion:
Cheap, easy to use camera that takes very good pictures outdoor and average pictures indoors and low-light conditions. With dedicated buttons for photos and video, 10MB sensor and face detection, is perfect for children use.
Samples:
Here are several samples of pictures taken with this camera, in various conditions. The pictures were not modified, but hey were scaled-down to fit the requirements on this website.
