NBC Olympics Live Extra 2012 app finally out on Android and iOS platforms

For the Olympic Games fans, NBC’s promise to stream over 3500 hours of sport activities fulfills a life’s dream and to complement it, NBC promised support for the most popular mobile platforms – iOS and Android. Today, the apps have finally launched and while still full of bugs and with limited support, especially on Android devices, it is a significant step forward in how we enjoy this event. The application is called NBC Olympics Live Extra and is available now for free. It installed and works  on my  CM9 TouchPad, but it doesn’t show as compatible with my Galaxy Skyrocket with ICS custom ROM. Anyway, the good Titanium Backup to the rescue and using Box or Dropbox I was able to easily transfer the air.com.nbcuni.com.nbcsports.liveextra.apk to my Skyrocket where I am happy to report that it works. Not well, it crashes like hell and the streams are choppy but I hope this is something that NBC can fix in time. Also, pressing back will exist the application, which is quite a weird behaviour. No live events yet as the games are obviously yet to start but plenty of content to keep you busy until the Big Event.

You will need an active TV subscription to access the live stream, but we, cable cutters always have friends / relatives ready to lend us a helping hand, don’t we? If you can’t get it for your device, you can download it from our website (no direct link to the file please) here. You’ll have to unzip it first though.
