Netflix update brings tablet optimized UI, even for Gingerbread, works on Nook Color and TouchPad

Netflix released another update for Android, optimized for tablets, and this time the interface is quite nice. Gone is the one column movie list that left most of the screen empty, in is a PS3-esque UI style that not only judiciously uses the entire screen area, but moves the subcategories in a nice menu list and shows related movies next to a selected one. What is even better is that the new UI also works on Gingerbread tablets, not only on Honeycomb ones. I just tested the new version on my CM 7 Nook Color and HP Touchpad and as you can see from the screenshots, it works quite well and also look gorgeous. Kudos to Netflix for finally stepping up the game.

Interestingly enough, the new UI arrived first on the Android platform, to follow on iPad in several weeks. This has to do with both Apple’s long approval process but also with the fact that the new Netflix apk will come on Kindle Fire and probably on Nook Tablet as well, so most of the work was already done on the Android.
