Well, it looks like it finally happened. The long awaited iPad 2 jailbreak is here, albeit not “officially”, if this is a good word to describe a hack. JailbreakMe 3.0 is the work done by Comex and one of the people in the team is rumored to have released the Beta iPad 2 jailbreak ahead of schedule. One of the good news is that you won’t need anything fancy, other than just to point a browser to a specific place and load a specific PDF file. As of right now, only the PDF file exploiting the vulnerability for iOS 4.3.0 is still up, the other for 4.3.3 was taken down already. The video describing how to jailbreak iPad 2 is still up on YouTube though and you can take a look here.
Update: I found the PDF file to jailbreak the iPad 2 iOS 4.3.3 called iPad_4.3.3_8j2.pdf and posted it here. Navigate using your iPad 2, open it and proceed. Also, please do not link directly to the file, as its location might change. Link directly to the article.
Disclaimer: Since the file is not officially released by Comex, it might even be harmful. Use it at your own risk.
Update2: The main problem is that, while the file is valid, the site that contains the jailbreaking tools is down so the only thing this file will do is to crash your iPad 2. If this happens, go to Settings->Safari and clear the browser history. You’ll be able to use the browser again. Alternatively, if you have shortcuts stored on your screen, just open one of them. Safari should start working again.
Meantime, I’ll suggest waiting for Comex to release the official jailbreak. You can be sure it will work better. Maybe that will happen on July 4th when you can also celebrate the your iPad’s Independence Day as well. Stay tuned for updates right here.
