Vulkano Flow 010410VF UPNP media / TV / DVR streamer launched – review to follow

Monsoon Multimedia recently announced its Vulkano Flow / Vulkano Blasts media streamers. In essence, Vulkano Flow is a device very similar with a Sling player and connects to your set-top box to stream your TV channels to your mobile devices using your internet connection (it can control your set top box via included IR blaster).

This is where the similarity with a Sling player ends. Vulkano Flow’s bigger brother, Vulkano Blast is capable of much more, including access to media files like videos, photos and music, acting as a DVR via its included 160GB hard drive, recording your TV shows, capable of play / pause / rewind, access to an EPG (electronic programming guide), YouTube HD support, etc. Vulkano Blast is also capable of streaming your media wirelesly around your house, including  live TV.

Vulkano Flow / Blast  are part of a larger family of streaming devices including Vulkano platinum, Deluxe and Deluxe Pro that support UPnP and can stream from a home server or NAS device. They can also play a large range of audio / video codecs including H.264, WMV9/VC-1, mp3, OGG, AAC, etc up to 1080p. The Vulkano family provide HDMI out and component / S-Video input. The component input supports up to 1080i resolution.

Vulkano Blast will also get Netflix, Amazon Video On Demand, and Yahoo Widgets support in the future.

The client support is very good, currently compatible with Android, iOS and Blackberry devices ($13 per app) , PC / MAC and soon to come Symbian and Windows Phone 7.
