How to jailbreak your iPhone 4 and iOS 4.1 using greenpoison

The Chronic Dev Team just released the RC3 (Release Candidate) of Greenpois0n, a jailbreaking tool destined to work with iPhone 3GS, iTouch 3G, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G and iPad combined with Apple’s latest iOS 4.1. Interestingly enough, as soon as it was released, it was also taken down and their website is down as well. Fortunately, we managed to get a copy so you can download it from here.

Currently, the application is only available for Windows platform with the MAC version to follow soon.

Please don’t link to the download directly as we will change the download link depending  on the traffic. If you want to link, link to this article.

Step 0: Be sure your device is supported and it runs iOS 4.1

Step 1: Download the greenpoison tool from here -> gp_win_rc3 or from Chronic Dev Team website if it is up again.

Step 2: Unzip it somewhere on the desktop and run the greenpois0n.exe file

Step 3: Put your iPhone in DFU mode. To learn how to do that, read this article or follow the instructions from greenpoison app

Step 4: Click on “Jailbreak” button and wait up to several minutes

Step 5: Enjoy your jailbroken iPhone / iPad / iPod Touch

Conform to Chronic Dev Team website, the next greenp0ison release will cover second generations of Apple TV and iPod Touch.

At the end, after you finished all the steps, Cydia might not be downloaded. However, you will find a blank icon called “Loader”. Click it and it will prompt you to install Cydia (see the next screenshot). After Cydia in installed, it will prompt you to remove the Loader which you can do safely and your device will restart.

Important: Don’t forget that if you had your device jailbroken prior 4.1 upgrade, the upgrade will erase your applications installed via Cydia (SBSettings, five icon dock, etc) so you’ll have to reinstall them.
